신봉리의 시간.

​작가 노트

4년 전, 경상북도 청도로 작업실을 옮겨 온 작가는 낡은 농촌 집을 작업실 삼아  오래된 목재와 한지, 흙과 먹 등 자연에서 찾은 소재들을 활용하여 이 곳 시골에서의 시간과 공간, 그리고 존재의 의미에 초점을 맞춘 ‘신봉리의 시간’프로젝트를 이어오고 있다.

2024년 처음으로 발표한 ‘신봉리의 시간’展에서는  

평생을 도시에서 살아온 작가가 낯선 농촌의 환경에 적응해 가며 자연들과 소통해가며 예술적 소통을 시도하는 ‘적응’의 과정들이었다면, 이번에 마련한 두 번째 ‘신봉리의 시간’展은  자연과 마을 문화에 스며들어 몸과 마음으로 직접 경험하고 얻어낸 ‘시간의 결’을 담아낸 ‘기록’이라고 말할 수 있다. 

낯선 환경에 ‘적응’하는 시간을 지나, 일상 속에 깃든 ‘지속’의 힘과 ‘변화’의 흐름을 함께 보여줄 수 있을 만큼 한 움큼 성장한 셈이다.

작품의 배경이 되는 화양읍 신봉리는 400여년의 역사를 가진 ‘청도 읍성’과 맞닿아 있다.
작가 개인의 삶이 시골마을의 역사와  맞닿아 가는 모습처럼, 이번 <신봉리의 시간>展은 그 읍성의 시간과 기억에 용기내어 손을 뻗어보는 또 하나의 실험적 도전이다.

Four years ago, the artist relocated her studio to Cheongdo, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Using an old rural house as her studio, she has continued the ‘Time in Sinbong-ri’ project, focusing on the time, space, and meaning of existence in this countryside, utilizing materials found in nature such as aged wood, hanji paper, earth, and ink.

The ‘Time in Sinbong-ri’ exhibition, first presented in 2024,  
If the first exhibition captured the artist's ‘adaptation’ process—attempting artistic communication while adjusting to the unfamiliar rural environment and engaging with nature after a lifetime in the city—then this second ‘Time in Sinbong-ri’ exhibition can be described as a ‘record’ embodying the ‘texture of time’ gained through direct physical and mental immersion in nature and village culture. 

Having passed through the time of ‘adapting’ to an unfamiliar environment, the artist has grown enough to now reveal both the power of ‘persistence’ embedded in daily life and the flow of ‘change’.

Sinbong-ri in Hwayang-eup, the backdrop for the works, borders the ‘Cheongdo County Fortress’ with over 400 years of history. Just as the artist's personal life intertwines with the history of this rural village, this <Time in Sinbong-ri> exhibition is another experimental challenge, reaching out with courage to the time and memories of that fortress.
